Have a Young Athlete at Home?
At Bee Kind Pediatrics, our approach to sports medicine considers more than the injury in front of us. From pre-participation physicals and injury evaluation to growth-plate-aware treatment planning and individualized nutrition guidance, we help young athletes participate safely, recover optimally, and support their long-term health and development.
Children and adolescents aren’t simply smaller adults, and their sports medicine care shouldn’t be adult protocols scaled down to size. Young athletes are still growing and developing. Their bones, muscles, joints, growth plates, nutritional needs, and training tolerance can differ significantly from those of adult athletes. At Bee Kind Pediatrics, we take a pediatric-specific approach to sports medicine that considers your child’s age, stage of development, sport, training schedule, medical history, and individual goals.
Whether your child is starting their first season or competing at a high level, our goal is to help them participate safely while protecting their health today and their development for the future.
Pediatric-Specific Injury Evaluation & Guidance
When a young athlete gets hurt, understanding the injury is only part of the picture. Dr. Rolnick evaluates sports-related injuries through a pediatric lens, taking into account how growth and development may affect both the injury and the recovery process.
Evaluations may consider:
- The location and mechanism of injury
- Your child’s age and developmental stage
- Training volume and frequency
- Sport-specific repetitive movements
- Previous injuries
- Pain patterns and changes in performance
- Bone, joint, muscle, and growth plate concerns
- Appropriate activity restrictions
- Safe return-to-play considerations
Rather than simply focusing on getting an athlete back onto the field as quickly as possible, we focus on helping them return safely and sustainably.
Pre-Participation Physicals That Go Beyond the Form
A sports physical should be more than a signature clearing your child to play. Bee Kind Pediatrics uses pre-participation physicals as an opportunity to take a closer look at the health and development of your young athlete.
Along with completing required forms, your child’s evaluation can assess:
- Growth and physical development
- Medical and family history
- Previous injuries
- Musculoskeletal health
- Cardiovascular considerations
- Training demands
- Sleep and recovery
- Nutrition and hydration
- Potential risk factors for injury
- Overall readiness for participation
For high-performing athletes, this also creates an opportunity to identify areas where additional support may help them meet the demands of their training while continuing to grow and develop appropriately.
Coordinated Care for the Whole Athlete
A child’s sports care may involve more than one professional. When needed, Dr. Rolnick can coordinate directly with your child’s coaches, athletic trainers, physical therapists, and other members of their care team to help everyone work toward the same goal.
This collaborative approach can help with:
- Understanding activity restrictions
- Establishing appropriate recovery expectations
- Coordinating rehabilitation
- Modifying training when necessary
- Developing return-to-play plans
- Monitoring progress
- Reducing the risk of reinjury
Instead of leaving parents to relay medical information between multiple people, Bee Kind Pediatrics can help create a more connected approach to your child’s care.
Growth-Plate-Aware Treatment Planning
One of the most important differences between pediatric and adult sports medicine is that young athletes may still be growing. Growth plates are areas of developing tissue near the ends of children’s and adolescents’ bones. Because they have not yet fully matured, injuries and repetitive stress affecting these areas require special consideration. Our approach looks beyond resolving immediate pain to consider how an injury and its treatment may affect your child’s continued growth and development.
Treatment planning may include:
- Appropriate rest and activity modification
- Monitoring pain and mobility
- Evaluating potential growth plate involvement
- Referrals for imaging or specialist care when appropriate
- Gradual return-to-sport guidance
- Strategies to reduce repetitive stress
- Follow-up throughout recovery
The goal isn’t simply to get through the current season; it’s to protect the growing athlete for the seasons ahead.
Sports Nutrition for Growing Bodies
Athletes have increased nutritional demands, and high-performing young athletes may have particularly significant needs. Those needs can vary based on age, stage of growth, sport, training intensity, training frequency, body composition, and individual health. Bee Kind Pediatrics provides targeted nutritional guidance designed around the individual athlete rather than relying on generalized sports nutrition advice.
We can discuss:
- Energy needs for growth and athletic performance
- Pre- and post-training nutrition
- Protein and carbohydrate needs
- Hydration and electrolyte considerations
- Meal and snack timing
- Recovery nutrition
- Nutrients important during periods of rapid growth
- Supporting adequate nutrition during demanding training schedules
- Healthy approaches to body composition and performance goals
Supporting High-Performing Young Athletes
As training becomes more competitive, the demands placed on a child’s body can increase substantially. High-performing athletes may practice or compete multiple days per week, participate in more than one team or league, travel for competitions, or train year-round. Bee Kind Pediatrics can help families look at the bigger picture, including:
- Training load
- Recovery and rest
- Sleep
- Nutrition
- Growth and development
- Recurrent pain or injuries
- Overuse concerns
- Physical and emotional well-being
- Balancing performance with long-term health
Our goal is to support athletic development without losing sight of childhood development.
More Than Getting Back in the Game
Pediatric sports medicine shouldn’t focus solely on whether an athlete can play. We want to understand whether they can participate safely, whether their body is recovering appropriately, and whether their training, nutrition, and overall health are supporting their continued development. From a first sports physical to navigating an injury during a competitive season, Bee Kind Pediatrics provides families with individualized physician guidance at every stage.

My daughter just had her ears pierced today and I can tell you that both Maria and Dr. Blair couldn’t have been more professional or patient with my daughter. She also engaged very well with my daughter made her feel comfortable and that means a lot to any parent of a child. I would highly recommend Dr. Blair and her office to any parent that’s looking for a pediatrician for their child.Posted on Google

We’ve been going to Beekind for about 6 months now and I have nothing but great things to say about this practice. First, the space itself is absolutely stunning. With the calming colors and whimsical designs, it’s hard to believe you’re in a doctor’s office. The exam room is more like a play space that immediately put my child at ease. But what truly sets this practice apart is the care. Dr. Rolnick and her staff are not only incredibly knowledgeable and up-to-date on the latest in pediatric medicine, but they also take the time to really listen to your concerns and meet you where you’re at. We’ve never felt rushed and everyone is always extremely patient and kind. In fact, every time we’ve visited either Dr. Rolnick or FNP Santucci have sat with us for at least an hour, playing with my child and answering every question I’ve had. The personalized attention we receive here is unmatched. Plus, they have the most up-to-date technology which makes telehealth visits a great option if you can’t make it into the office. It’s a completely different level of care—proactive, thorough, and deeply human. We feel so lucky to have found this place. Highly recommend!Posted on Google

The health, wellbeing, and development of my baby are the most important things for me as a parent, and to be able to invest in good doctors is crucial to ensure we’re providing our baby the best we can. After having an upsetting experience at another pediatrician we were recommended this pediatric practice by our friends and we’ve been so happy with the choice. Not only they’re thorough with their assessments, blood work, eye exams, etc, they truly make you feel cared for. They’re also vaccine friendly and will allow you to space out vaccinations if needed. My husband and I highly recommend this place!Posted on Google

If you’re reading these reviews wondering if you should join Dr. Rolnick’s practice at Bee Kind Pediatrics, this is your sign to go for it. We had our daughters’ first appointments today, and we couldn’t be happier with the experience. Switching doctors can be a daunting process, but after today, we’re confident we made the right decision for our girls. From the moment we walked in, Kelsey made us feel so welcome. She was warm, friendly, and took the time to explain everything about the practices and appointment in a way that was clear for the entire family. We felt completely comfortable and informed every step of the way. Dr. Rolnick is truly exceptional. To say she is thorough is an understatement. She took the time to make sure both of our daughters felt safe and comfortable in her care, and that sense of security extended to us as parents. She listened attentively to every concern and responded with kindness, understanding, and action. The best part? Our 5-year-old left the office saying she loved her new doctor and asked if Dr. Rolnick could be her doctor “forever.” If that doesn’t speak volumes about the care they provide, I don’t know what does. Thank you Dr. Rolnick and staff!Posted on Google

Switching to Bee Kind was the best decision for our family. Dr. Rolnick’s 'slow medicine' approach means we never feel rushed, and she truly listens to every concern we have. It feels like having a doctor in the family who truly cares about our children’s long-term wellness.
