Because necessary care should not have to become a traumatic experience.
Our Pain-Conscious Approach
Dr. Balir Rolnick’s training and experience in Pediatric Emergency Medicine includes extensive experience managing pain and anxiety in children during medical procedures. At Bee Kind Pediatrics, these techniques are incorporated into routine care such as vaccinations and blood draws.
- Pharmacological topical anesthetic agents
- Non-pharmacological numbing techniques
- Age-appropriate positioning
- Distraction and calming techniques
- Parent-assisted comfort strategies
- Additional time to help anxious children feel comfortable
- Ultrasound guidance for difficult blood draws
Rather than expecting a child to simply “get through it,” we work to minimize pain and create a calmer, more positive experience.
Vaccinations
Vaccines are an important part of preventive pediatric care, protecting children against potentially serious illnesses while helping prevent the spread of disease throughout the community.
Dr. Rolnick works with families to help children remain appropriately vaccinated and meet applicable school and childcare requirements.
Common childhood vaccines provide protection against illnesses such as:
- Chickenpox
- Influenza
- Hepatitis B
- Measles
- Mumps
- Polio
- Tetanus
- Pertussis (whooping cough)
Why Vaccinations Matter
Protecting Your Child
Vaccinations help protect children against illnesses that can cause serious complications.
Protecting Others
Vaccination can also help reduce the spread of disease to people who may be unable to receive certain vaccines, including young infants and some individuals with weakened immune systems.
Preparing for School
Schools, preschools, and childcare programs may require specific vaccinations based on applicable state requirements. Bee Kind Pediatrics can help families understand their child’s vaccination history and what may be needed based on their age and circumstances.
Blood Draws & Phlebotomy
There are many reasons your child may need blood work. Blood testing may be recommended to:
- Check for anemia
- Identify signs of infection
- Evaluate organ function
- Monitor blood sugar
- Assess other health concerns
- Monitor an existing condition
While the actual blood draw typically takes only a few minutes, we understand that the anticipation of a needle can be especially difficult for children.
Pediatric-Specific Blood Draws
Drawing blood from a child is not the same as drawing blood from an adult. Children have smaller veins, may have difficulty remaining still, and can experience significant anxiety surrounding needles. Dr. Rolnick’s Pediatric Emergency Medicine experience allows her to approach pediatric blood draws with techniques specifically designed for children rather than simply scaling down an adult procedure.
Ultrasound-Guided Blood Draws
When appropriate, Dr. Rolnick can use a handheld ultrasound to help identify and access a child’s vein.
This technology allows the physician to visualize veins that may otherwise be difficult to locate, which can improve the likelihood of obtaining the necessary sample with fewer attempts.
For a child who has experienced difficult blood draws in the past, minimizing unnecessary needle sticks can make a meaningful difference.
What to Expect During a Vaccine or Blood
Preparation
Before beginning, our team will explain the process in an age-appropriate way and determine which pain-reduction and comfort techniques are most appropriate.
Numbing & Comfort
Depending on your child’s age and family preferences, topical anesthetic or non-pharmacological numbing techniques may be used before the procedure. We can also incorporate positioning, distraction, and parent-assisted comfort strategies.
The Procedure
For vaccinations, the appropriate vaccine is administered as efficiently and comfortably as possible. For blood draws, the area is cleaned and a tourniquet may be used to make the vein easier to access. Ultrasound guidance or another vein-access technique may be used when appropriate.
Recovery
Once the procedure is complete, the site will be covered and your child will be given time to recover comfortably.
After the Procedure
Some children may briefly feel dizzy or lightheaded following a blood draw or vaccination. When appropriate, Bee Kind Pediatrics will monitor your child for approximately 15 minutes following the procedure. Before you leave, we will provide aftercare instructions and explain what you can expect at home. Some temporary soreness, redness, or swelling at the injection site can occur. Contact our office if you notice symptoms that concern you, including significant or worsening redness, swelling, or drainage.
Pain-Conscious Care Beyond the Office
Many Bee Kind Pediatrics services, including eligible vaccines and blood draws, can also be performed in your home. For children who are especially anxious in medical environments, receiving care somewhere familiar can provide another layer of comfort. In-home visits are available for an additional $100 per visit.
Make Needles Less Intimidating
Whether your child needs a routine vaccine or has struggled with blood draws in the past, Bee Kind Pediatrics combines pediatric expertise, pain-reduction techniques, and an unhurried approach to make necessary procedures as comfortable as possible.

My daughter just had her ears pierced today and I can tell you that both Maria and Dr. Blair couldn’t have been more professional or patient with my daughter. She also engaged very well with my daughter made her feel comfortable and that means a lot to any parent of a child. I would highly recommend Dr. Blair and her office to any parent that’s looking for a pediatrician for their child.Posted on Google

We’ve been going to Beekind for about 6 months now and I have nothing but great things to say about this practice. First, the space itself is absolutely stunning. With the calming colors and whimsical designs, it’s hard to believe you’re in a doctor’s office. The exam room is more like a play space that immediately put my child at ease. But what truly sets this practice apart is the care. Dr. Rolnick and her staff are not only incredibly knowledgeable and up-to-date on the latest in pediatric medicine, but they also take the time to really listen to your concerns and meet you where you’re at. We’ve never felt rushed and everyone is always extremely patient and kind. In fact, every time we’ve visited either Dr. Rolnick or FNP Santucci have sat with us for at least an hour, playing with my child and answering every question I’ve had. The personalized attention we receive here is unmatched. Plus, they have the most up-to-date technology which makes telehealth visits a great option if you can’t make it into the office. It’s a completely different level of care—proactive, thorough, and deeply human. We feel so lucky to have found this place. Highly recommend!Posted on Google

The health, wellbeing, and development of my baby are the most important things for me as a parent, and to be able to invest in good doctors is crucial to ensure we’re providing our baby the best we can. After having an upsetting experience at another pediatrician we were recommended this pediatric practice by our friends and we’ve been so happy with the choice. Not only they’re thorough with their assessments, blood work, eye exams, etc, they truly make you feel cared for. They’re also vaccine friendly and will allow you to space out vaccinations if needed. My husband and I highly recommend this place!Posted on Google

If you’re reading these reviews wondering if you should join Dr. Rolnick’s practice at Bee Kind Pediatrics, this is your sign to go for it. We had our daughters’ first appointments today, and we couldn’t be happier with the experience. Switching doctors can be a daunting process, but after today, we’re confident we made the right decision for our girls. From the moment we walked in, Kelsey made us feel so welcome. She was warm, friendly, and took the time to explain everything about the practices and appointment in a way that was clear for the entire family. We felt completely comfortable and informed every step of the way. Dr. Rolnick is truly exceptional. To say she is thorough is an understatement. She took the time to make sure both of our daughters felt safe and comfortable in her care, and that sense of security extended to us as parents. She listened attentively to every concern and responded with kindness, understanding, and action. The best part? Our 5-year-old left the office saying she loved her new doctor and asked if Dr. Rolnick could be her doctor “forever.” If that doesn’t speak volumes about the care they provide, I don’t know what does. Thank you Dr. Rolnick and staff!Posted on Google
